Robin

Robin started clubhouse in 1998 after losing her son to Child Protective Services and dealing with an abusive husband at the time. She knew a few people at Clubhouse already which helped her be more comfortable and begin to actively participate. Tragically she had one of her sons pass to alcoholism which led her to deep depression where all she wanted to do herself was drink. Clubhouse members and staff were there for Robin, encouraging her to get the help she needed. She has now been sober for about 8 years.

Robin met her best friend and current partner here at Clubhouse. Robin and Val are extremely close, having maintained their friendship over the course of twenty years. Ron, Robin’s partner, attended here and they have been happily together for about 8 years. Robin feels that New Hope is like a second family for her. The relationships she has formed here have been happy and healthy, helping her to comfortably maintain them.

Overall, Clubhouse has helped Robin learn to create these positive relationships, how to manage conflicts, and how to manage difficult emotions. She said it has helped her to not feel so alone and to find purpose and meaning in her life.
